Informal agreements can work but they have to start from a level of trust.
When you’re involved in any form of the mediation process, it relies on trust. Many couples who enter into mediation are excited to know that they can compromise with their spouses instead of getting into legal fights in court. This anticipation of the dissolution of their marriage should be approached with some caution, however. There are always good compromises and bad compromises, and if you are focused on just getting to a compromise, you might be selling yourself short again and again.
